About

PLEASE NOTE …….. unfortunately there is a wait time to engage with me currently of 3-4 months. My session days are Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri. My latest appt on weekdays is 3.30pm. If you know you need support more quickly, late afternoon appts, or Weds/weekend appts, please research the fabulous plethora of local psychologists to find a better fit. You can use your current Referral-MHTP from your GP with any psychologist anywhere in Australia, regardless of the specific psychologist’s name the GP has included on your plan.

I’m a Clinical Psychologist with a Clinical Masters degree and I work with adult clients (21years and above) in my private practice in Byron Bay, Northern Rivers NSW. I mostly work face to face but do offer telehealth/Zoom sessions to people who live further away.

My practise is collaborative and trauma-informed, to ensure therapy delivery can be individualised, safe, satisfying and effective. My focus is developing a warm, respectful, compassionate therapeutic relationship with you that encourages open exploration and understanding of your experience. While therapy is a creative fluid process (involving a fusion of different evidence based approaches and strategies to fit a clients’ specific needs at any given time), I have a particular interest in providing structure every step of the way (explaining the why and how for each intervention), so the therapy experience really makes sense to you and you feel empowered to ‘drive’ the process with my support.

Therapy often begins with gentle exploration together to identify support/skills that have been lacking along the way, the impact of trauma (big and little, singular and repetitive), and how these influence brain function/nervous system states, consequent experience of emotions, and formation of coping strategies (‘healthy and unhealthy’). The aim is always to increase self-compassion, ability to confidently self-regulate, effectively connect and communicate and problem-solve.

In earlier decades I tried out a wide array of self development/spiritual approaches. In later decades I’ve been much more interested in melding those experiences/understandings with evidence based science driven approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), biofeedback therapy, and schema therapy. My favourite approaches in therapy currently are informed by ongoing training/immersion in Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment Pattern Repair, Polyvagal Informed Therapy (brain/nervous system function), Somatic (body) Informed Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) approaches.

If you think I might be the right match for you I look forward to meeting you to explore and understand your experience more compassionately and effectively.
